CCDN311: RAP Numero Uno!
The first lecture for CCDN311 had quite a lot of the general housekeeping, course outline, assignment outlines etc so there isn't much to talk about for it. It seems to blend a mixture of creative work with written work without going too far in one direction, which is nice. I find papers usually have a lot of creative work and ask for 300 word "essays" or are just all written.
One of the first slide mentioned why do I design. Now i personally don't really design for any of the reasons that were listed besides making something that lasts forever (to meet the basic needs of survival, to serve others, to create something of real consequence, to participate in the genesis of human innovation) I personally design to make something interesting to look at, to create something that could inspire others to design the way other designers I view inspire me.
In terms of the topic of the lecture, Theories, and the slide that mentions theories, facts and opinions. My design personally is driven by opinion. It is my opinion that what i make looks by definition cool and interesting, and what i choose to design is not usually driven by theory. Which, in my opinion, is not necessarily a bad thing. Alas, in my opinion, though theories can link certain pieces of work (two pieces sharing the same theory) it can also create restrictions on the design and the process.
